One day I noticed my cat, Simon, was curled up into the contours of this corrugated cardboard chair design I made for a client who were paper manufacturers. Simon's attraction to the carboard inspired me to create a bed that was designed to suit his needs and proportions. The result was the kittypod, my first design of the collection. From the moment I brought him his kittypod, Simon jumped in and while there were options around the house he hardly go out of it to the point that I was like, "What is going on here?" That was in 1998 so he's had a long history with the kittypod, and it's proven to remain his favorite place to do things kitties do while keeping an eye out on the happenings around the house. Now he has the couchette, the prrounge, a shilhouette, and he testes all the designs.
I like to position the pieces throughout the house, well... because if your cat is like Simon he follows you from room to room and so he has his spot in whatever room I'm in, rather thank taking up on the sofa or my vintage danish chair! It' s extremely satisfying to see Simon curled up in the kittypod and I find myself laughing aloud when I look at him in these things, and what I realize is so simple... giving to Simon makes me happy. -Elizabeth Paige Smith
